The Certified Professional in Supply Management is the leading global credential in procurement and supply chain — issued by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). Here's what every Army soldier should know.
The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) is the oldest and largest supply chain association in the world. CPSM is their flagship professional certification, recognized by civilian employers across defense, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and federal contracting.
CPSM certification requires passing three exams. Passing Exam 1 — Supply Management Core — earns you the Associate Professional in Supply Management (APSM) designation immediately. APSM is a standalone civilian credential. The full CPSM requires all three exams.
CPSM is an approved credential in the Army COOL (Credentialing Opportunities On-Line) catalogue. Active duty soldiers in supply and logistics MOS roles may apply for ArmyIgnitED credentialing assistance to fund their CPSM training and exam fees.
CPSM certification requires 3 years of professional supply chain experience with a bachelor's degree, or 5 years without a degree. Army soldiers in supply and logistics roles typically meet this requirement through their military service.
